New York the city that never sleeps

New York, New York…so good they named it twice. Time and time again this city remains at the top of people’s wish list to visit looking for a classic New York experience. Once you’ve visited the big apple you’ll want to go back and if you have never been we’re sure you’d love to go. No trip to New York is ever complete and there are always new things do. Read our blog below for some of our essential tips for any trip to New York City…

 1.       Sight-seeing souls...

The Empire State building; Freedom Tower; Rockafellar Centre and Grand Central Station, just to name a few. Some of these famous buildings have become ingrained in our culture through film and TV and will be a must see for your visit we’re sure. Tip: if you have a short time in NYC, it’s best to pick two a day, that way you’re sure to see at least some of these infamous sights and you might just have time to spot something unexpected on the sidewalk – New York is a great place just to people watch!

No trip to New York is complete without seeing the Statue of Liberty, make your way down to Battery Park to catch the free Staten Island Ferry and get a glimpse of the great lady as you go past. The view of Manhattan as you sail away give you a minute to step away from all the mayhem and hustle and bustle of the city

2.       The mouth-watering cuisine...

New York City is made up of an abundance of neighbourhoods and immigrant communities meaning foodies are spoilt for choice. From delicious pizza in Little Italy, mouth-watering Tso-chicken in Chinatown to fragrant Kimchi in Koreatown there is something to suit every taste.

Those looking for a traditional American dining experience should look no further than one of the hundreds of diners on every street in Manhattan. Watching the guys working behind the counter throwing bagels to the cashier guy whilst scoffing down your scrambled eggs, maple-cured bacon and sausages will feel like a real New York experience. Those with a sweet tooth should head to the famous Magnolia Bakery, a red velvet New York cheesecake will make the visit worthwhile.

3.       Shop til you drop…

Shopping in New York City for some is the ultimate place to spend the American dollar. Designer shops and legendary department stores made familiar by Christmas movies line the city’s streets and lure you in their doors. A visit to Tiffany’s made famous by Audrey Hepburn is a visit most women will want to make on the tourist trail, followed swiftly by Macy’s and Bloomingdales.

For those looking for a different kind of shopping experience should head to Chinatown to see a whole host of designer bags, jewellery and sunglasses lining the streets around the areas—tip: barter with the price, they always go down! A step across the river to Brooklyn flea market gives you a chance to step away from the tall rise buildings and to take in the view of Manhattan from across the Hudson.

4.       Take a walk…

New York City is a city best seen by walking, the grid system makes it fairly easy to navigate and you’ll find you way around fairly quickly. If you’re looking to stretch your legs and take in the sights walking across the Brooklyn Bridge offers the ultimate photo opportunity, even if it’s a bit windy! Tip: fairly new to the city, the High Line is a public park built on a historic freight rail line elevated above the streets on Manhattan’s West Side. It has become a favourite New York spot and offers a really special way to see the city!
